Kanban System Design Training: Efficiently Design and Optimize Workflows

Start using Kanban to visualize and optimize workflows in your organization, identify bottlenecks early and increase productivity based on data.

Core Topics

Experience the flow

In this section of the training, you will experience Kanban in action. We start with the GetKanban Game , an interactive game that helps you understand the principles of Kanban in a simulated environment. During the game, you will experience how work processes can be visualized, prioritized and optimized. You will learn how to identify bottlenecks and make improvements to the flow. This exercise gives you a deep insight into the dynamics of a functioning Kanban system and prepares you for the practical challenges in the real world.

Understanding Kanban

Now it's time to get down to business: We'll dive into the basics of Kanban. I'll explain the seven core practices of Kanban and show you how they can be applied in different work environments. The simulation will support us here and provide a good connection. Through additional examples and interactive discussions, you'll understand how Kanban can help improve your work processes and make them more efficient.

Kanban metrics and flow optimization

We'll focus on the key metrics in the Kanban system, especially Customer Lead Time and System Lead Time. We'll also talk about the concept of flow, including Little's Law , which helps you understand the relationship between throughput, work in progress (WIP), and lead time. I'll also show you how to use charts like Cumulative Flow Diagrams (CFD) and Control Charts to graphically prepare and analyze workflow to make informed decisions about system optimization.

STATIK (Systems Thinking Approach to Implementing Kanban)

This section is about the STATIK framework, a systemic approach to introducing Kanban. I will show you step by step how you can implement Kanban in your work environment - from analyzing the current situation to concrete implementation. Using real case studies from various industries, you can see how other companies have successfully introduced Kanban.

Conclusion and reflection

Finally, we will summarize the most important points of the day. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and we will discuss how you can implement what you have learned in your company. Finally, we will have a short feedback session to see if everything went well and then we will say goodbye.
